Simpler Recycling UK

31st March 2025-2027

In an effort to simplify recycling, new guidelines have been introduced in England which are particularly relevant for hotels and hospitality businesses. The updated policy aims to standardise recycling processes across all sectors, including non-domestic premises like hotels, ensuring consistent and simplified waste management practices.

Key points for hotels and hospitality businesses:

  • Standardised Bins: Establishments will generally need to manage four types of waste: general waste, food waste, paper and cardboard, and mixed recyclables (plastics, metals, and glass).

  • Food Waste Collections: Food waste must be collected at least weekly, aiming to reduce odour and improve hygiene.

  • Recycling Simplification: The aim is to reduce the confusion around recycling through consistent collections across different regions, which should ease the process for both staff and guests.

  • Support for Implementation: Guidelines and support will be provided to help businesses adapt to these new standards, ensuring they are compliant by set deadlines.

For detailed information and further guidance, you can review the full policies on the UK government's policy update. These resources are crucial to help you ensure that your business meets the new recycling requirements effectively.
